MEDICAL SCIENCE
The Medical Science program is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field. The basic entry-level information that is covered serves as a solid foundation for all students in Medical Sciences regardless of the healthcare profession they are pursuing. The course integrates anatomy and physiology and advanced biology and explores the role of ethics. This “hands-on” applied course consists of career exploration, integrated research projects, field trips to medical facilities, and skills lab. The Medical Science program offers 2 introduction to college classes through concurrent enrollment with SMCC as well as a Certified Residential Medication Aide (CRMA) certification.
Medical Terminology (3 college credits) A course designed to introduce medical terminology using a body system approach. The student will develop a basic understanding of medical language by analyzing prefixes, suffixes, root words, and combining forms as they relate to the different body systems and basic cellular structure.
Anatomy and Physiology (3 credits)
This course is designed for students preparing for a career in the medical field. Emphasis will be on anatomical terminology and structure and function of the following components of the human body: cells, tissues, integument, skeleton, joints, muscles, and nervous system. The laboratory portion of the course complements and reinforces the lecture through the use of additional resources, focusing on closer examination of the body’s components.
